Idaho Pasture Pig

Pigs are moved every 5–12 days in a paddock system that balances land recovery with foraging time. Inspired by the Joel Salatin method, the approach improves soil health and prevents overgrazing. Shelters are available, but pigs often choose to stay outside—even in subzero weather. Wallows are used in summer for cooling.

We don’t use vaccines or routine antibiotics. Pigs are rotated to prevent buildup of pathogens and given clean bedding and shelter. They choose their environment, reducing stress. Mud is encouraged in summer for skin and sun protection. Clean water and supplemental minerals are always available.

Organic pasture mix from HyView Feeds (includes added selenium and peas), supplemented with food scraps, raw milk, and foraged greens. Pigs graze heavily and root lightly thanks to their anatomy. We’re working toward supplementing with homegrown fodder and garden vegetables.
